a dream i had

As the years passed by, it felt like days, like if 2008 was just a Tuesday in June and 2012 was just a Saturday in June. In the mist of 2013 just around the corner, it being October and all, I announced to all that I was moving to Ireland. I had already put a lease upon a beautiful two story cottage in the country side.

I had put the lease down on the back in the beginning of the year when I flew to a teachers convention in January at London. On the day off my son Caleb begged me to take him to the Ireland country side ever since his grandmother, my mother, would read "Angela's Ashes" and "Tis" at bedtime to him. He was fascinated with Ireland ever since. As we took a breathtaking scenic drive through Ireland, my son caught the view of a "For Sale" sign outside of the cottage.

It was a simply marvelous thing. The man gave us, or rather should I say, Caleb a tour of the house. Caleb ran and jumped up and down squealing "Please mommy. Please. I promise to be good boy, and stop asking for a puppy." After a long discussion of explaining that it would mean leaving his friends, house, school, and everything else, he just smiled and said. "I have you mommy, and I can make new friends, and I get to go to a new school, and this is our new house." I caved.

When we got back home, he didn't unpack his suitcase, he said he was going to start packing the rest of his stuff. I just laughed as he started to pack his teddy bear and favorite toys in a bag, the rest he left in a corner saying "I give those to cousin."

Here we are. In Ireland, in the backyard we have planted sunflowers, which Caleb likes to water almost everyday, when he's not playing with his puppy Oso, or playing with his new friends. I teach at a pre school not far from his elementary school.

I would have never imaged that this is the way my life would be. It's happy and wonderful. My parents visit during the holidays, and so does my brother, and his wife. The holidays are always great, Caleb gets to play with his cousin, get bedtime stories from his grandmother, and candy sneaked to him by his grandfather, yes dad I knew all along, and oh yea he's getting a new cousin in five months.

I've made friends also on this island, it is wonderful, and everyone is great. We all have play dates so our children can play with each other, and we can sit around and chat. Sometimes we get the fathers to set the play dates, so us mothers can go off to the beach or a spa, once a month or so.

But to be truly honest the beach is best when I have Caleb and Oso there.

((Sigh)) Life is truly perfect.

Exactly what is the futue?

Is it some mysterious cosmic force, that no matter what we do the outcome has already been carefully caculated? Or is it something that just happens along with your decisions, and mistakes? Why try if everything is already planned out? why bother if your mistakes are what mostly makes up our futures? Our successes, our achievements, it all means nothing compared to our mistakes.

Our mistakes are what people remember the most. Forget the cure you found, or the lives you saved, If you fucked your wifes sister, thats what people will remember when you die.
